Obituary For Earl Davis
Date of Birth:12/25/1920
Date of Death: 06/09/2026
Ms. Sadie Susie Green of Charleston, South Carolina, was called home to
be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. She passed away peacefully at
the age of 105.
She was born in Ravenel, South Carolina on December 25, 1920, to the late David and Anna Waring, and was raised by her stepfather, the late Johnny Green and mother, Anna. She graduated from Burke High School, accepted Christ as a young adult, and became a dedicated member of Nichols Chapel AME Church for over seven decades.
Ms. Green worked as a housekeeper and childcare provider for two generations of the Whetsell and Pregnall families, and took great pride in assisting Teresa Pregnall, known as “The Cake Lady,” bake over 700 cakes during Thanksgiving and Christmas totaling thousands each year. As a gesture of appreciation, The Cake Lady named several cakes in her honor. Sadie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially in sharing her love of gardening and baking fruit and nut pound cakes.
Ms. Green resided on Kennedy Street for nearly 75 years, where she was affectionately called by residents, the “Mayor of Kennedy Street.” She was an active member and the oldest member of Nichols Chapel AME Church. She held leadership positions, including Treasurer, Trustee, Steward, and Lay Organization President and Delegate. Sadie was an original member of the Nichols Chapel Richard Allen and regional Golden Voices choirs. So beloved by many on Kennedy Street, Ms. Green was presented a video from both Congressman James Clyburn and Senator Tim Scott wishing her a Happy 100th birthday through her neighbor “Captain John,” a SC National Guard member, who was assigned to the Capitol to protect the Congressional delegation after the January 6 insurrection. She has also been featured for 3 years on Channel 5 News as a centenarian.
As the oldest resident of Stratford Place Assisted Living facility, Ms. Green enjoyed several daily walks, playing BINGO (winning hundreds of stuffed animals), and snacking on too many macadamia nut cookies and potato chips provided by family and friends. She loved visitors, car rides, and eating out at S&S cafeteria and especially Golden Corral.
Our beloved matriarch was preceded in death by her parents: John and Anna Green; siblings: Alice C. Gibbs and Arthur Green; sons: James Vanderhorst Waring, Robert Campbell, Sr. (Brenda); and daughter Vermell L. Green. She leaves to cherish her memory, special-son William Wallace Pregnall (Karen) and son Charles Green (Ruth); special niece Izetta Williams, special granddaughter Vonzetta Pierre (David); grandsons: Dr. Robert Campbell, Jr., John White, Jr., Marcus Campbell (LaTanja), Kyle Robert Campbell, Reynard Charles Green, Jonathan Trevor Waring (Jessica), Jamie Ditrick Waring, James Derrick Waring (Teela), and Tremayne Glover (Rasheda) as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
